Cite in one click with RefME Safari extension for iPhone and iPad

RefME Safari Extension

Back-to-school season is in full swing, and at RefME we want to do our bit to make that process as easy and painless as possible. That means building lots of exciting new features like the new RefME Safari extension we’re bringing out today: Think of it as a “Cite” button that lets you clip information from the web straight into your bibliography.

We’ve noticed that a lot of our iOS users create references from websites (in fact this is the 2nd most popular source of citations) but in order to do that they had to copy the url from a web page, close it, and then switch back to RefME to paste it.

Granted, it’s still easier than many other tools out there, but we knew we could do better than that. We set about working with Apple’s new iOS 8 feature, so that mobile users browsing the web on their iPhones or iPads can now create that same reference without ever leaving Safari.

With so much technology available in this digital and mobile world, we know that the researchers of the future (i.e. students) just don’t have the time and patience to deal with antiquated tools that take more time to learn than they save you in the long run.

At RefME we think that citing should be as easy as hitting the “Like” button on Facebook, or sharing an article on Twitter, and we think this feature – like the Chrome WebClipper we launched in April – takes us closer to that experience. Here’s a quick video walkthrough of how it works:

To enable the RefME extension, just follow these easy steps below. From then on, you’ll be able to seamlessly create references by tapping the “share” button and selecting the RefME icon. You can even review and edit your citations before saving them without exiting the browser! Easy peasy. We do hope you like it, so please let us know what you think, we’re always on Twitter @getrefme
