Chantal deFelice grew up in Oregon, graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design and has shown throughout Orange County and Los Angeles, as well as in San Francisco and Pittsburgh, PA. She works in a variety of media, including photography, painting, woodwork and ink drawing. Q1: What do you think the best way to do the reportage? Why?
A1: I think the best way to do reportage is when you feel some connection or attraction to the subject matter in front of you, but you allow the image flow through your hands to your paper with minimal interference from your conscious mind.

Q2: Do you know George Butler and Oliver Kugler ? What do you think the way they use so special?
Q2: I had not seen the work of George Butler or Oliver Kugler before, but I looked up their portfolios online and am impressed by their reportage drawings. Different styles but both very cool!
I think what makes Butler so unique is his use of negative space, he draws forms and leaves the shape empty but you can still tell the emotion of the subject. I also enjoy his use of subtle color. With Kugler, I think his style of filling the page with information is actually the thing that makes his reportage style stand out.

Q3: If you don't know GB and OK,why do you think the way they use so special?

Q4: What Methods or ways for traditional illustrators usually use and why? What about others illustrators?
Q4: Traditional reportage illustrators use pencil, pen and ink, or ink with watercolor. These mediums are all easy to transport, to carry in a small bag or pocket while you are travelling, and dry fast. Illustrators working in a studio environment might use things that take more time, or are more complicated to set up, like oil paint and acrylic.

Q5: What way you will choose to do reportage?
Q5: When I am creating reportage sketches, I prefer to use a small sketchbook and a black ink pen. I like to keep it simple!

I am attaching a few of my reportage portrait drawings that I did while taking the BART subway train in San Francisco. (1)

Klan members dropped recruitment literature on lawns in four Oklahoma small towns Wednesday. Members say they are not violent, they just want to let people know what they stand for.
OKFUSKEE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Residents in Paden, Boley, Okemah and Prague woke up Wednesday morning to find flyers from the Ku Klux Klan on their front yards.

""I assumed it was mail,"" said Lorna Davis, who first saw the flyer on the step of her job. ""When I pick it up and see Klan written on it I was like ‘Oh, my goodness.'""

The fliers appear to be recruitment fliers listing ""Twenty reasons why you (if qualified) should join, aid and support the United White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.""

""I'm just plain offended by it,"" said Davis.

Just miles up the street in Boley, a town that's historically African American, Micelea Mitchell's mother was the first to read the flier that arrived on their doorstep.

""She was like yea, she got a little upset about it,"" said Mitchell.

""We are not a hate group,"" argues one of the members of the group that distributed the fliers.

He says they are not the violent KKK of the past and that's one of the messages they were trying to get out. (1)
