Example
The world has adopted the mentality that prosperity can only be obtained through achieving growth in the gross domestic product of a country. In many, countries, high growth rates have been make the top priority as they develop and modernize their infrastructure and create opportunities for their citizens. This has lead to rapid environmental degradation, much of which seems irreversible. Other countries have prioritized environmental protection and rejuvenation, which has created jobs and contributed to the GDP. This takes tremendous investment, but it can have a multiplier effect. So, not all development requires that nature be destroyed, but ones do not have to look very far to find examples of environmental destruction in the name of economic development.” 1
