The CU Harvard style reference, like Harvard, follows the Author-Date style of referencing citations. Using this system, citations containing the author’s surname, date of publication and page number are placed within brackets and included in the body text, either within or directly after a sentence. These citations are accompanied by a ‘Reference list’ or ‘Bibliography’, which contains all the information the reader needs to find the source of the citation.
For an in-text citation, all you need is the author’s name, date of publication and page number. The remaining details for the stated source are reserved for the reference list or bibliography, usually located at the end of a piece of work.
So, if that’s the in-text citation, what’s the CU format for a list of references? The format used for a list of references depends on the source you are citing. For example, if you are citing a book, the format of this reference will differ to that of a website reference.
