Unemployment is growing worse in less developed countries as the size of the working-age population increases. A result of unemployment in rural areas is urban overcrowding contributing to crime, alienation, etc. Public services and housing are inadequate. Green cites the need for expansion of integrated health delivery systems to reach these people. Education opportunities have improved and illiteracy has declined. However, 2/3 of illiterate adults are women. Political implications are that high population growth rates can undermine the internal stability of nations, and make these nations appear unattractive to needed foreign capital. (2015)
