Generally speaking, Creative Europe is a programme that aims at supporting Europe’s cultural and creative sectors. According to their website, Creative Europe supports culture sector initiatives, audiovisual sector initiatives and a cross-sectoral strand. It consists of the two sub-programmes, Culture sub-programme and MEDIA sub-programme. In order to support the industry, Creative Europe provides funding for creative work, including i.e. thousands of artists, cinemas and book translations.
Among its goals are “helping the cultural and creative sectors seize the opportunities of the digital age and globalisation; Enabling the sectors to reach their economic potential, contributing to sustainable growth, jobs, and social cohesion; and giving Europe's culture and media sectors access to new international opportunities, markets, and audiences.” (Ec.europa.eu, 2015)
