The author is credible because he has a great amount of knowledge in fields of psychology and has written many other articles. He says acceptance and being safe are the reasons why people hide themselves from the world. People would wear masks, hiding their true selves, to get accepted. "One of the greatest needs that one can have is the need to be accepted." (Cooper, 8) It is people's needs to get accepted in the society. "Here one may have primarily been approved of when they pleased other people and did what they wanted. Their needs, wants, desires, preferences, feelings and thoughts would have been dismissed or ignored." (Cooper, 43) People wants to get accepted because if they are accepted they can do what they want to do. In "The Time Machine", the time traveler wanted to get accepted by Eloi, so he can travel the future world. On the other hand, the Morlocks did not accept the time traveler, so the time traveler was not able to travel underground safe. In "The Road", the society has fallen, which means people would not have to get accepted by other people. As a result, chaos occurs, such as, killing, stealing, assaulting, etc... (Cooper 2015)
