I have struggled with eating disordered behaviours for years. I go through patterns of restricting, bingeing, laxatives, vomiting and over exercising. There is and will always be some sort of “thing” going on in relation to food and my “body”. Laxatives are one of my main “behaviours” sometimes I can go for weeks “clean” and other times, like the last few weeks (I think it’s weeks) I can abuse them daily.
I gain weight, I lose weight, I’m never happy with my weight. My body is not a temple, but more of a hideous monster. The monster is both internal and external. However hard I try I can not rid myself of the monster, I can’t change its appearance, and I definitely can’t learn to like or accept it. Clothes scare me, what if they don’t fit, what if they are too tight? Yet the naked form repulses me more.
People’s comments are taken to heart, magnified inside my mind, louder and louder. For example I overheard my ex speaking to my daughter….
“so you want to end up like your mum, your auntie C, and your grandma”
My sister is over weight, my mother is extremely overweight, only recently being told that if she doesn’t lose weight soon she is likely to either die or become very unwell within the next 12 months, due to weight related problems, ie her diabetes, her heart, her liver or kidneys..all having to much pressure on them.
To liken me to my mother in any form is extremely damaging….I can’t deal with thoughts surrounding my mother, I can’t bear the fact that I may resemble her in anyway what so ever, either physical or non physical. That one sentence has impacted me significantly. Any thought of stopping the laxatives due to the “physical” pains I’m enduring yet again, is stopped dead in their tracks.
Another way to lose weight rapidly would be to just stop the Quetiapine altogether. In the past the weight falls off me without the Q. I’m always complaining about Quetiapine, I hate the way I become paralysed within my own mind, flashbacks so real and physical disabled due to the Quetiapine, but then there are times I love the way I feel drugged in a haze just in that bubble. Me and the Q have known each other for years, but we’ve always had the same love hate relationship. Maybe I’m my own worst enemy, “doctoring” how much Q I take myself, increasing and decreasing the dosage however I see fit, sometimes I need the slight respite that it gives me, other times I purposely miss it in order to punish myself with the hideous withdrawal side effects, the itchy skin, the nausea, the racing heart, the complete lack of sleep, the increase in volume from the noise in my head, the increase of seeing things, unsure what’s real or not. Maybe it’s time for some cold turkey again! For 2 reasons, and if I’m honest, both as important as the other.
