Staffordshire University Harvard referencing is a variation of the Harvard referencing system. Referencing is used in the academic community to give credibility to statements by showing where that information was found. It can be used to support statements, theories or to validate quotes and facts.
The Staffordshire University Harvard style was created for use in works published or submitted to Staffordshire University and is very similar to Harvard style. It works in the same way, with citations in the text and a corresponding reference list at the end of the paper.
Using the Staffordshire University Harvard referencing style, a citation is placed within the text next to the appropriate sentence; the citation can take two forms. When the author’s name doesn’t appear in the text both the name of the author and the year of publication are shown in brackets. When the name does appear in the text, only the year of publication is shown in the brackets directly afterwards.
At the end of the research, there is an alphabetised reference list that contains the full source information of each citation. This allows the reader to see where the information, idea or theory came from. The full reference starts with the same author surname and year of publication as in the citation to help the reader find the correct reference.
